The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) is on the verge of announcing a landmark title sponsorship deal worth more than $7.5 million over the next three years, marking one of the biggest commercial partnerships in the league’s history.
NPFL Chairman, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, confirmed that negotiations with the prospective title sponsor are at an advanced stage, with the official unveiling expected before the league’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for August 7.
Speaking during an interview at the Maldron Hotel in Glasgow, Scotland, Elegbeleye said the agreement is in its final stages, revealing that he had travelled abroad to conclude discussions and ensure every detail of the partnership is finalised.
“We are finalising the details. I have travelled abroad to conclude discussions and ensure everything is properly put in place. Beyond becoming our title sponsor, this partnership will also strengthen our digital presence as we work to grow the league’s social media platforms through influencers and strategic content creation,” Elegbeleye said.
Beyond the financial investment, the proposed partnership is expected to support the NPFL’s digital transformation, with a strong focus on expanding the league’s online presence and improving fan engagement through strategic content creation and influencer collaborations.
As part of the league’s broader repositioning strategy, Elegbeleye disclosed that discussions had also been held with some of Nigeria’s leading entertainers, who have agreed in principle to support campaigns aimed at increasing fan interest and promoting the league nationwide.
The NPFL is also set to establish a dedicated social media department comprising experienced sports journalists, digital content creators and young media professionals. The initiative is designed to strengthen the league’s storytelling, increase audience engagement and provide consistent coverage across its digital platforms.
“We are setting up a social media department that will bring together journalists who have remained committed to the league and young, creative media professionals. Our goal is to consistently tell the NPFL story and connect with fans across digital platforms,” he added.
Elegbeleye reaffirmed the league’s commitment to maintaining its August-to-May football calendar, describing the schedule as a key indicator of the NPFL’s growing professionalism and organisational stability.
With the 2025/26 season set to kick off this month, the expected announcement of the new title sponsor represents another significant milestone in the NPFL’s commercial growth, while reinforcing efforts to elevate the league’s profile both domestically and internationally.
