Bashir Rufai, representing newly admitted Gaiters FC, says joining The Creative Championship (TCC) is a key step in the club’s goal of becoming one of Nigeria’s top football talent hubs.
Rufai, speaking at the media parley ahead of the 2026/27 TCC season, said Gaiters FC — founded in January 2025 — chose the TCC for its focus on high standards, competitive football, and player development.
“For a young club that started in January 2025, the idea is simple: if the talent is there, let’s push the kids immediately. There’s no point keeping them waiting if they have the ability and they are ready,” he said.
The club has previously featured in the Nigeria National League One (NLO) and the FA Cup. However, Rufai believes the TCC offers the right platform for Gaiters’ young players to grow and gain visibility.
He added that the club is also looking to the TCC to attract scouts and corporate partners who can support the long-term development of players and coaches.
“We believe the TCC will put us on a platform where our talents will get the right exposure. It will also help us attract corporate bodies that can support the continuous development of the club,” Rufai stated.
Beyond football, Rufai emphasized that Gaiters’ philosophy includes education and personal growth. Players are encouraged to pursue academics, technology, and languages alongside their football careers.
“It’s not just football. We ensure that the minimum qualification for any player in our team is to have their WAEC,” he noted.
Gaiters’ immediate target is clear: advance from the TCC Cup group stage, impress fans and management, and secure permanent entry into the league.
“We are the babies of the house, but we have a lot to show on the pitch,” Rufai said.
