FEFCAN Ladies produced a stunning performance in Ghana, defeating Ghana Malta Guinness Premier League giants FC Samartex Ladies 4–1 to book their place in the semi-finals of the 2026 Cheetah Cup.
The Nigerian side came up against a formidable Samartex team led by Yusif Basigi, former coach of Ghana’s Black Princesses and Black Queens. Despite the pedigree and experience of their opponents, FEFCAN displayed tremendous character, intensity and attacking quality to secure a convincing victory.
The competitive clash got off to a flying start when Esther Stephen opened the scoring in the 10th minute, connecting perfectly with a well-delivered corner kick from Odey Success.
FC Samartex Ladies responded strongly and found the equaliser before half-time, sending both teams into the break level.
FEFCAN returned for the second half with renewed intensity, putting the Timber girls under sustained pressure. Their efforts were rewarded when a reckless challenge by a Samartex defender brought down Joseph Favour inside the penalty area.
FEFCAN goalkeeper Olufemi Ifeoluwa confidently stepped up and converted the resulting penalty to restore the Nigerian side’s lead.
The pressure continued, and another challenge on Esther Stephen handed FEFCAN a second penalty. Ifeoluwa once again took responsibility, but the crossbar came to Samartex’s rescue.
FEFCAN refused to let the missed opportunity affect their momentum. The Timber Girls gradually lost control of the contest as the Nigerian side continued to dominate.
The introduction of substitute Nurudeen Aliya proved decisive. The forward came on with tremendous energy and became a constant threat to the Samartex defence, eventually scoring twice to complete FEFCAN’s emphatic 4–1 victory.
The result sends FEFCAN into the semi-finals of the 2026 Cheetah Cup, marking another memorable achievement for the Nigerian representatives on Ghanaian soil.
