EXCLUSIVE: Gbenga Ogunbote Set to Extend Stay at Plateau United with New One-Year Deal
Plateau United are set to retain the services of experienced coach Gbenga Ogunbote after deciding to activate a one-year contract extension following his impressive impact at the club.
Ogunbote, who was appointed midway through the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, arrived with the club battling relegation and in desperate need of stability. The veteran tactician was handed the task of steering the Peace Boys away from danger, and he delivered on that mandate.
Popularly known as “The Oracle”, Ogunbote took over after a difficult first half of the campaign and immediately brought renewed confidence and organisation to the squad. Under his guidance, Plateau United showed remarkable improvement in form, putting together a series of positive results that helped the club pull clear of the relegation zone.
Renowned Journalist MikeThePundit reveals that the club hierarchy is pleased with the progress made under the former Shooting Stars, Rangers International, and Remo Stars manager. As a result, they have opted to trigger an extension clause that will keep him at the New Jos Stadium for another year.
When Ogunbote was unveiled earlier in the season, he made it clear that his primary objective was to preserve Plateau United’s top-flight status. His contract was initially designed to run until the end of the campaign, with a renewal clause subject to mutual agreement.

His reputation for turning around struggling teams once again proved invaluable during his stint with the Jos-based club.
