Maikaba Steps Down as Wikki Tourists Coach Over Safety Concerns

Abdu Maikaba has resigned from his position as technical adviser of Wikki Tourists FC, citing safety concerns and a lack of unity within the club as reasons for his decision.

In a letter dated February 9 and addressed to the club’s management in Bauchi, Maikaba revealed that threats to his life, both physical and through social media, forced him to step aside after careful consultation. The resignation brings an abrupt end to his latest stint with the club, which began following his reappointment with the task of restoring Wikki Tourists to their former status among the country’s top sides in the NPFL.

Maikaba had previously enjoyed success with the club, guiding them to performances that earned qualification for continental competitions. His return was widely seen as a strategic move aimed at stabilising the team and pushing them back into contention.

The decision has drawn reactions from supporters, with football fan Abu Hussaini describing the resignation as understandable. He said Maikaba had given his best for the club and suggested that a lack of appreciation for his efforts contributed to the outcome.

Hussaini added that he remains confident the experienced coach will find better opportunities in the future, pointing to Maikaba’s resilience, experience and dedication to football as qualities that will continue to serve him well.
