Promise Keepers Boost Survival Hopes with Victory Over Struggling Enyimba

In a thrilling Nigeria Premier Football League encounter at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa United secured a vital 2-1 victory over eight-time champions Enyimba International, boosting their chances of survival in the top flight.

The Promise Keepers started brightly, with Ogunleye Olayemi breaking the deadlock in the 26th minute to send the home crowd into jubilation. However, their joy was short-lived as Enyimba responded with an equalizer in the 39th minute, setting up an intriguing second half.

The decisive moment came in the 75th minute when Uche Sebastian, displaying his predatory instincts, pounced on a rebound to net his second goal of the season and restore Akwa United’s lead. The striker’s clinical finish proved to be the difference between the two sides.

Despite this crucial win, Akwa United still face an uphill battle in their fight for survival. The Promise Keepers remain in 18th position, having collected 23 points from 23 matches. Every point will be crucial as they attempt to climb out of the relegation zone in the remaining fixtures.

For Enyimba, the defeat represents another setback in what has been a disappointing campaign. The People’s Elephant currently sit in 8th position with 31 points from 22 games, well below their usual standards. While they have a game in hand, their hopes of securing continental football for next season are hanging by a thread.

The Aba-based giants will need to significantly improve their form in the remaining matches if they hope to climb up the table and secure one of the coveted CAF competition spots that their fans have become accustomed to over the years.
